A fully guided descent 70 feet underground to the Great Stalactite — the largest in Europe at 7.3 metres and around 10 tonnes — plus a 1 km farm Eco-Trail above ground.
A 50-minute fully guided tour (max 20 people) descends 125 steps — the height of an 8-storey building — into two chambers. The Main Chamber holds the Great Stalactite, Europe's largest at 7.3 m and roughly 10 tonnes; the Second Chamber has straw stalactites, helicites and bell jars. Hard hats are supplied and flash photography is allowed. A moderate level of fitness and sturdy closed shoes are needed.
A gentle, self-guided 1 km chip-stone loop above the cave, free to cave visitors. It passes the original 1952 cave entrance, an Enchanted Hallow fairy village, rare-breed cattle, pygmy goats, Soay and Jacob sheep, wildflower meadows and limestone seating, with views over the glacial valley to Ballinalacken Castle.
The visitor centre café serves local hand-baked cakes, and the gift shop sells resident Doolin Cave Pottery, hand-made from glacial cave clay dug 120 ft deep in the caverns, alongside other local crafts.
Doolin Cave is a Burren Geosite Discovery Point, 5 minutes from Doolin village, home of traditional Irish music, and about 20 minutes from the Cliffs of Moher on the R479 (Doolin to Fanore Road).
