Standing over 1,000 feet above the Atlantic on the Skellig Ring, Kerry Cliffs delivers the closest land-based views of the UNESCO-listed Skellig Islands — with a fraction of the crowds of better-known Irish cliffs.
A 10-minute uphill walk on a wide gravel path leads to two main viewing areas with fenced platforms. On a clear day you can see Skellig Michael, Little Skellig, and Puffin Island directly ahead. The left-hand viewpoint is generally considered the more spectacular of the two. Allow at least 30–45 minutes; many visitors stay over an hour.
On the walk up you'll encounter three stone beehive hut replicas — modelled on the actual 6th-century monastic dwellings found on Skellig Michael. A fun photo stop and a taste of what awaits on the island, especially if you can't get a boat tour.
En route to the cliffs, stop by the small paddock to see the resident alpacas, donkeys, and horses. Particularly popular with families and children.
Picnic tables are dotted along the path to the cliffs. Pack your own lunch and enjoy it with sweeping views of the Atlantic and Irish countryside. The fast-food kiosk on site also serves daily fresh food and drinks if you prefer to buy on-site.
The site welcomes campervans, tents, and cars for overnight stays. Facilities include 24-hour toilets, water for campervans, and the fast-food kiosk during the day. Waking up to Atlantic views from your pitch is a unique Wild Atlantic Way experience.
The cliffs are a haven for seabirds including puffins (seasonal), razorbills, guillemots, fulmars, gannets, choughs, and peregrine falcons. Puffin Island is visible from the viewpoints and the Kerry Cliffs are the closest land-based observation point. Bring binoculars for the best experience.
