Cúm an Easpaig, or Cliff View, is the Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point where the Skellig Ring climbs to one of Ireland's highest coastal passes — a windswept pull-off with sweeping views to the Skellig Islands.
Pull over at the top of the pass for the whole reason to come: wide views over the Iveragh Peninsula, Dingle Bay, Portmagee village, St Finian's Bay and the Skellig Islands. On misty days you can find yourself above the cloud.
The climb from Portmagee is 4.3 km with 243 m of ascent, an average gradient of 5.7% and a brutally steep final kick of 19.4%, topping out at 248 m. The road is narrow and the last kilometre is steep, so take the descent gently.
Cúm an Easpaig is an official Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point on the Skellig Ring, signed and marked at the viewpoint — a photo stop in itself.
Just down the far side toward Portmagee, the Kerry Cliffs soar over 300 m, with walkways and viewing platforms facing Skellig Michael and Little Skellig. The nearby Beehive Village recreates the monks' stone huts.
Much of the Skellig Ring lies inside the Kerry International Dark Sky Reserve, a Gold Tier site. On clear nights the Milky Way is visible with the naked eye — the pass is one of the quietest places to look up.
There is nothing to eat at the viewpoint, so plan a meal in Portmagee a short drive away: seafood at The Moorings or The Fisherman's Bar, plus Smuggler's Café and The Bridge Bar.
