About

Green Park, also known as the '98 Memorial Park, is Youghal's leafy Victorian seafront park, laid out around 1900 with an octagonal cast-iron bandstand, a cast-iron fountain and a memorial to the 1798 Rebellion — a free, open-all-day green space right beside the beach and promenade.

Things to Do

See the new performance pavilion

A bespoke covered performance pavilion now stands at the park entrance off O'Brien's Place, designed to echo the park's Victorian bandstand and fountain. It acts as a stage for concerts, presentations and screenings and as a walk-through gateway into the park, with a wheelchair-accessible ramp.

Victorian heritage walk

Wander a park that dates to about 1900 and takes in three protected features: the octagonal cast-iron bandstand, an ornate cast-iron public fountain, and the marble statue of Rev. Peter O'Neill, erected c.1950 in memory of those 'cruelly flogged' or 'unjustly hanged' for taking part in the 1798 Rebellion — which gives the park its '98 Memorial name.

Picnic on the lawns

Benches, seating and grassy lawns make this a relaxed spot to picnic while the children run about. The park has wide, accessible paths, dogs are allowed, and the setting overlooks the Blackwater estuary.

Paddle at Green Park Beach

Directly opposite the park across the promenade is Green Park Beach (locally 'Green Hole'), a flat, easy-access beach that appears as the tide falls. At low tide there are easily reached rock pools that children love to explore; swim only close to shore because of the river current further out.
