A Victorian seaside park on the Blackwater estuary, Green Park — known locally as the '98 Memorial Park — holds a c.1900 bandstand and fountain, a 1798 memorial and a new covered events pavilion, between Youghal's town centre and its beach.
Green Park is a formal Victorian-style park laid out on a central axis of protected structures: a cast-iron bandstand (c.1900) on an octagonal plan, an ornate cast-iron public fountain (c.1900) and the marble statue of Rev. Peter O'Neill, erected c.1950 to commemorate those flogged or hanged after the 1798 Rebellion.
A bespoke covered events pavilion was installed at the park's entrance, designed to echo the Victorian bandstand and fountain. Standing 5m high and 9m wide with a wheelchair-accessible ramp, it hosts musical performances, ceremonies and film screenings.
A raised promenade runs along the sea wall with views over the Blackwater estuary and across to the lighthouse, with steps down to the beach. The sunken walled garden below is sheltered from the wind but has no direct sea view.
Manicured lawns give room for kick-abouts, while sheltered picnic benches, an art wall and plenty of seating make it a popular spot for families and older visitors. It sits between the town centre and the long beach.
From the park the coast path heads toward Claycastle; nearby, Ireland's longest seafront boardwalk — the 1.48km Youghal Eco-Boardwalk — links the Blue Flag beaches of Claycastle and Redbarn, about a 20-minute walk.
