A Blue Flag golden strand in Fintragh Bay, a few minutes' drive from Killybegs, backed by sand dunes and giving wide views across Donegal Bay to Benbulben and Slieve League.
The beach slopes very gently into shallow water, making it safe for children to paddle and swim. Its Blue Flag status reflects clean water and good safety standards, and lifeguards are on duty from June to September, 12.00-18.30.
The strand runs roughly 1km along the sheltered bay. A path through the sand dunes behind the beach makes a good circular walk and is popular with families and dog walkers (dogs allowed, kept under control).
Rocky outcrops at the edges of the beach hold rock pools worth exploring at low tide, when a wide expanse of sand is exposed.
From the beach and the steep approach road you look out over Donegal Bay to Benbulben in Co. Sligo, with Slieve League cliffs, Muckross Head and Inishduff Island visible on clear days. A favourite spot for photographers and sunset watchers on the Wild Atlantic Way.
