Ireland's most famous sea cliffs drop sheer into the Atlantic for 8 km, with safe paved walkways, a hillside visitor centre and views to the Aran Islands. Sunset is the best time to go.
Around 800 m of paved, safe cliff-edge pathway links several viewing platforms, including the main platform and the southern platform looking toward Hags Head. The full signed round-trip is 3.5 km (2.17 miles). Stay behind walls and barriers at all times.
A three-minute 4D ride inside the visitor centre follows a gannet over the cliff edge, underwater and back past the sea stack, with wind and mist effects. It is included in the admission ticket.
The long-distance coastal walk connects Liscannor and Doolin via the cliffs, but sections are currently closed for safety: check status before setting out.
The 1835 tower built by landlord Sir Cornelius O'Brien is the site's rooftop vantage point; on a clear day you can see the Aran Islands and Connemara's Twelve Bens. Entry and a tour are included in the admission price, and nine whiskey barrels are maturing inside.
Built into the hillside, the award-winning centre holds a domed interpretative exhibition on the geology, wildlife and human story of the cliffs, with a seismometer and interactive displays. It is fully wheelchair accessible.
The cliffs are one of Ireland's most important bird-breeding sites and a designated Special Protection Area, with major colonies of puffins, guillemots, razorbills, fulmars and choughs on the sea stacks.
Two cafés sit inside the visitor centre: the Puffin's Nest Café on the ground floor for drinks, sandwiches, soup and 99 ice creams, and the 120-seat Cliffs View Café upstairs, which serves locally sourced Irish food. Picnic benches are dotted around the site and blankets can be borrowed.
The shop inside the visitor centre stocks products from 80 Irish suppliers, 60 of them local or artisan.
