A 27-acre Victorian park in the heart of Dublin, laid out in 1880 with a three-acre lake, waterfall, fountains and formal gardens — and free to walk into.
Commemorative statues and memorials are dotted throughout the park, including figures such as Lord Ardilaun, Countess Markievicz, James Joyce and W. B. Yeats, plus the Famine Memorial. The entrance is through the Fusiliers' Arch, a granite triumphal arch of 1907.
On Easter Monday 1916 the Irish Citizen Army under Michael Mallin and Countess Markievicz seized the Green, dug trenches around its perimeter and used the glasshouse as a first-aid station. Bullet holes from the fighting can still be seen on the Fusiliers' Arch.

The three-acre man-made lake is the park's centrepiece, complete with a waterfall, an island, Pulham rockwork and a bridge. Mallard, swans and moorhens live on the water, and more than 750 trees shelter the Green from the noise of the city.
The playground has separate areas for smaller and older children, with swings, slides and a roundabout that are popular with younger visitors.
The Garden for the Blind is planted with aromatic shrubs and herbs and carries labels in Braille. Other features around the park include the Bog Garden and the Bandstand.
