Things to Do
Isle of the Senses and the LED floor
A €2 million upgrade added the multi-sensory Isle of the Senses gallery, which evokes the landscapes emigrants carried with them, and a 28 sq m interactive LED floor tracing movement from currachs to ocean liners and airplanes.
Trace your Irish roots
The Irish Family History Centre sits at the exit of the exhibition, to the rear of the gift shop. Book a one-to-one genealogy consultation (from €138) or a full research package, in person or online.
Guided tours and audio guides
A daily English guided tour runs at 1pm (adults from €25). You can hire an audio guide device for €3, or use the free Smartify app in nine languages; bring your own headphones for the app.
Gift shop and food in the CHQ building
A gift shop sits at the end of the tour. Cafés and restaurants are in the same building, and you can come and go as you please during your visit, popping out to refuel and returning to finish.
Explore Dublin's Docklands
Step outside into the neighbourhood where many emigrants departed: the Jeanie Johnston famine ship, the Famine Memorial statues, the Custom House, the Diving Bell, kayaking and Liffey boat tours are all close by.
Plan Your Visit
- Hours: Open 7 days a week, 10:00am – 6:45pm (last entry 5pm). Early 9am opening in June, July and August. Closed 24–26 December.
- Admission: Adults €22 online (€24 on the day); children €11 online (€12 on the day). Cheapest when booked online in advance.
- Parking: No free parking. Q-Park IFSC multi-storey on Commons Street is a two-minute walk, to the rear of the Hilton Garden Inn. Pre-book online with code EPIC20 for 20% off. There is a coach drop-off point at EPIC.
- Food: Several options inside the CHQ building: Urban Brewing (brewery/restaurant), Tír deli, The Bakehouse, Starbucks and Seven Wonders. Neighbourhood spots include Coffee Angel, Tang, As One, The Brew Dock and Il Fornaio. Combo tickets pair a museum tour with lunch, brunch or tapas at Urban Brewing.
