A 6-acre oasis of formal flower beds, vegetable gardens, herbaceous borders, glasshouses, and a shaded fernery — all planted exclusively with pre-1901 Victorian varieties. Visit the restored Head Gardener's House, the Workman's Bothy, and the Vinery. One of Ireland's last Victorian walled gardens, winner of the Europa Nostra award.
A 5-minute lakeshore walk from the Abbey, this 'cathedral in miniature' was built by Mitchell Henry as a memorial to his wife Margaret. Note the uniquely feminine Gothic detail — flowers, birds, and angels replace traditional gargoyles — and the four Irish marble pillars. Currently undergoing external repairs but remains open. Music recitals and choral performances held here throughout the year.
Tucked quietly in the woodland just beyond the church lies the modest brick resting place of Mitchell and Margaret Henry, reunited here after his death in 1910. A serene spot steeped in the estate's most poignant love story.
Explore several waymarked walks across the estate: the Dawros River Walk (1km, 30min), the Flora, Fauna & Folklore Trail (1km, 30min), and the Tree Trail identifying 25 species along paved avenues. The recently uncovered Sruffaunduff Waterfall is a spectacular sight after rain. Good footwear recommended.
Kids can make a wish at the Giant's Ironing Stone, meet Kune Kune pigs Ken & Gloria, watch Connemara ponies in the paddock, and play in the Wild Play Area near the Garden Tea House. Under-12s go free. Activity sheets and colouring pages available.
