About

A remote, unspoilt Green Coast Award beach on the Wild Atlantic Way, where soft white sand meets clear Connemara water with Mweelrea Mountain and Clare Island on the horizon.

Things to Do

Walk the white sands

There are actually two beaches at Renvyle, split by a small hillock, giving a decent stretch of white sand to walk. Views along the way take in Mweelrea Mountain, Clare Island, Inishturk, Crump Island and the Twelve Bens.

Swim and paddle

The waters are often shallow and clear, and the beach holds a Green Coast Award for excellent water quality. There are no lifeguards, so check conditions locally before going in.

Camp beside the beach

Renvyle Beach Caravan and Camping Park sits right on the dune edge with direct beach access, hot showers, a campers kitchen, laundry, WiFi and an EV charger. Open May to September.

Hunt in the rock pools

Rocky sections dot the bay and hold small marine life in their pools at low tide — a favourite with families exploring the shoreline.

Watch the sunset

Facing west over the Atlantic, the beach turns russet as the sun drops, with the mountains recast in red-gold light. A quiet, often empty spot for evening light.

Explore the peninsula

Lettergesh and Glassilaun beaches are minutes away, with Kylemore Abbey and Diamond Hill a short drive. Tullycross village nearby has pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Plan Your Visit

  • Hours: Open 24 hours, year-round; the beach is always accessible. The adjacent campsite runs May to September.
  • Admission: Free public beach — no admission charge
  • Parking: Small free car park at the very edge of the beach with room for about twelve cars; it fills quickly on fine summer days. Street parking is limited.
  • Food: No food on the beach. Shops, pubs and restaurants are a short walk away in Tullycross, with a wider choice in Clifden and Letterfrack.
