A well-preserved earthen ringfort on the Slea Head Drive, wrapped in fairy folklore and paired with a small pet farm where children can feed sheep, goats, horses and donkeys.
A univallate rath, also called a lios or ringfort, sits on a gentle east-facing slope with wide views. Its earthen bank rises about 2.5m above the interior and 4.2m above the fosse, and you enter through a 3m causewayed gateway facing due east. Inside, look for traces of three or four huts and a souterrain.
A small animal farm keeps sheep, lambs, goats, kids, horses and donkeys. Rations are provided on site so you can hand-feed them, and the animals are used to people and often pose for a photograph.
Local folklore links these enclosures to the Tuatha Dé Danann and the Fír Bolg. Legend warns against cutting whitethorn, the fairy tree, and says anyone inside between 1am and 5am will not leave alive.
The site lies about 10km west of Dingle town in the parish of Kilvickadownig, beside the R559 on the Slea Head Drive. Most visitors allow 30-60 minutes; families often stay longer feeding the animals.
