A 19km cross-border greenway along Carlingford Lough, built on an old railway line, linking Carlingford Marina with Omeath and Newry beneath the Cooley and Mourne Mountains.
The path follows the old Dundalk, Newry & Greenore railway trackbed. Look right across Carlingford Lough to the Mourne Mountains and left to the slopes of Slieve Foye, with grassy picnic spots along the shoreline.
Level-crossing piers, bridges and railway buildings survive along the route, a treat for anyone interested in industrial archaeology.
The midway village has cafes, take-aways, pubs with restaurants, shops, public toilets, a children's playground and Mena's Chipper on the pier.
The original stretch runs about 6.5km from Carlingford Marina to Omeath along the shore, almost flat with only minor inclines. Resurfaced in tarmac in 2024, it now suits walkers, buggies, scooters and all types of bike.
Completed in July 2025, a wide boardwalk carries the greenway above the Newry River from the border to Victoria Lock, joining Omeath to Newry and completing the 19km Carlingford-to-Newry route.
At the Carlingford end you can wander one of Ireland's best-preserved medieval villages, with its Norman castle, restaurants and cosy pubs.
