Things to Do
Climb to the Round Tower and Cathedral
Above the strand stand the 12th-century round tower and cathedral ruins of St Declan's settlement, said to be Ireland's oldest Christian site.
Walk the Ardmore Cliff Walk
A 5 km waymarked loop leaves the beach and passes the ruined medieval cathedral and round tower, a coastguard station and a WWII lookout post, taking about an hour.
Try water sports
Ardmore Adventures runs kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddling and rock climbing from the bay, plus summer camps for children.
Dine with a view
The Cliff House Hotel overlooks the bay and holds Waterford's only Michelin-starred restaurant; the village adds casual pubs and cafes.
Rock pooling and beach days
The northern end of the strand is good for rock pooling, with the town centre, a shop and a pub a short walk from the sand.
Plan Your Visit
- Parking: Parking is available beside the beach, but it fills up quickly on sunny summer days, so arrive earlier rather than later.
