A 20-metre cascade tucked into mossy woodland at the base of Torc Mountain — one of Killarney National Park's most accessible and photographed spots, just a 5-minute stroll from the car park.
From the main car park, a flat 200-metre woodland path follows the Owengarriff River to a viewing platform directly facing the cascade. You can also scramble down to the rocks at the base of the falls for a closer look — watch your footing when wet.
From the waterfall, climb the stone steps and follow colour-coded markers. The Yellow Loop (2.7 km) crosses a wooden bridge over the Owengarriff and returns to the N71. The Blue Loop adds about 600 metres, taking you further upstream before looping back. Both are well-signed and suitable for most fitness levels.
The 5 km Red Loop is a significantly tougher circuit climbing steeply up the southern face of Torc. It rewards with views over Muckross Lake and the chance to spot red deer. Sturdy shoes are essential — the trail is rough, rocky, and slippery after rain.
This easy 2.5 km return trail starts at Dundag Point and follows the lakeshore south to Torc Waterfall. The mostly flat route passes open fields where red deer often graze and offers views across Muckross Lake, ending right at the falls.
For the best panoramic views in the area, tackle the 8 km summit trail from the Upper Torc car park. A well-maintained boardwalk covers much of the route, making it achievable for fit beginners. From the top (535 m), you'll see all three Killarney lakes, the McGillycuddy Reeks, and the Dingle Peninsula.
