The most stopped-at lookout on the N71 between Killarney and Kenmare, where the Upper Lake, the wooded Long Range and the mountains of Killarney National Park fall away in one sweep. It takes its name from Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting, who admired the view here in 1861.
The classic stop: a wide view over the Upper Lake, the wooded slopes of the Long Range and the mountains of Killarney National Park folding away behind. The scene changes with the weather, and coin-operated binoculars are fixed at the viewpoint, so bring a few coins. Wind funnels through here, so pack a jacket even in summer.
A short distance up the N71 toward Moll's Gap there is a second viewing area with a newish walkway to a platform. The ground is relatively flat and doable for those with limited mobility, and it takes about 30 seconds from the car park. This is the safer stop: the café-side car park sits on a blind bend.
A ground-level café and craft shop with step-free entry serve refreshments here, with an open-roof terrace upstairs giving a panoramic view over the lakes. The balcony is billed as the best view from any café in Ireland, and there are toilets and WiFi on site.
Ladies View sits early on the clockwise drive from Killarney, so it makes a good first stop. Nearby are Moll's Gap (about a 10-minute drive), Torc Waterfall and its 20-metre cascade, the Gap of Dunloe, and Ross Castle on Lough Leane.
