One of Ireland's most celebrated roadside panoramas — a sweeping view over the Lakes of Killarney from a rocky perch on the Ring of Kerry, named for Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting who were spellbound here in 1861.
The primary pull-in right by the N71 delivers the classic postcard scene: Upper Lake shimmering below, framed by Purple Mountain and the MacGillycuddy's Reeks. There's a fixed information panel identifying landmarks. Coin-operated binoculars are available — bring €1 or €2 coins.
A short, flat, accessible walkway leads from the upper car park (towards Moll's Gap) to a newer viewing area set safely back from the road. This spot is quieter and avoids the blind-bend hazard of the first pull-in. Great for those with limited mobility.
The Ladies' View Gift Store Cafe Bar & Roof Terrace sits right opposite the main viewpoint. Grab a coffee or lunch and head upstairs — the roof terrace gives you an elevated, uninterrupted vantage point over the valley. The gift shop sells local crafts and souvenirs.
This historic trail — part of the Kerry Way — starts near Ladies' View and winds through oak woodland and open moorland towards Torc Waterfall and Muckross. It's a relatively easy 12 km one-way route, or you can tackle shorter out-and-back sections. Pick up a trail map in Killarney town beforehand.
The viewpoint faces east-southeast, making it stunning at sunrise when the lakes catch the first light. In autumn the hillsides blaze with russet and gold. Early morning and late afternoon also mean fewer tour buses — this is one of the busiest stops on the Ring of Kerry.
