A tucked-away sandy strand in East Cork, Inch Beach is a local favourite for surfers, sunset-watchers, and families — just 40 minutes from Cork City yet feeling a world apart.
Inch Beach gets fairly consistent surf year-round, with gentle waves ideal for beginners. Swell Surf School operates on the beach from March to November, offering group lessons, private tuition, kids' camps, surf academies, and full equipment rental. They also run women-only 'Surficise' classes and beach boot camps.
The beach has two distinct halves: one sandy side backed by rushes and a small stream, the other with interesting rock formations, small cliffs, and dunes. At low tide, long tidal plains are exposed, revealing colourful pools filled with marine life — perfect for families to explore.
The Sweaty Sanctuary Sauna sits right on the beach with sea views, a fire pit, and benches for chilling between sessions. Open Thursday to Sunday (Thu 5–9pm, Fri 10am–6pm, Sat–Sun 8am–6pm). Shared sessions from around €10 per person — book online in advance.
Inch Beach is rated one of Cork's best sunset spots. Grassy areas above the sand make it easy to spread out a picnic or set up a BBQ without sand in your food. Evenings in summer are especially popular with locals driving out from Midleton and Cork City.
Follow the easy cliff-top trail from the beach out to Power Head Lighthouse. The walk crosses private farmland (dogs not permitted) and rewards you with sweeping views across the Cork coastline and harbour entrance. Allow about an hour return.
