A reconstructed 19th-century Irish village on the Ring of Kerry, where you can step inside fully furnished thatched cottages and meet the once nearly extinct Kerry Bog Pony. It is the only museum of its kind in Europe, set beneath the MacGillycuddy Reeks.
Period thatched cottages are furnished with authentic antiques, figurines and sound effects, recreating rural life through the famine years and late 19th century. A multilingual booklet at the entrance explains each cottage and point of interest.
In the village you can see the Kerry Bog Pony, a mountain breed once kept as pack and cart horses on the bogs, alongside the world's tallest dog, the Irish Wolfhound.
The old traditional pub next door serves food and refreshments and is famous for its Irish coffee, with an antique atmosphere visitors often linger in.
Two large gift stores on site, one in the village and one in the Red Fox, make an easy stop for souvenirs on the Ring of Kerry.
Outdoors, a large display of rural farm equipment shows how turf cutters and farmers worked the surrounding Ballintleave bog lands, where peat was the primary fuel for heating and cooking.
