A Coillte-managed broadleaf wood just outside Kilworth, threaded by the little Douglas River and by a cold stone spring well hidden a few steps off the walking path.
Cork Sports Partnership lists Glensheskin as a 1.5 km forest walk starting 1.5 km north-east of Kilworth, and the wood is described as a popular place for families. Trails follow the little Douglas River through broadleaf woodland.
A small spring well sits in a semi-circle of stone blocks tucked into the bank just off the walking path; it was built by the community council about 15 years ago and the water is exceptionally fresh and cold. It has no recorded folklore, so it is a local curiosity rather than an official holy well.
The wood is big enough for real distance: IMRA's Halloween half-marathon in Glensheskin covers 21 km with 300 m of climb, alongside a much easier 5k. The races are held on an October evening, so head torches are needed.
You can reach the wood on foot from the square in Kilworth: follow the yellow Avondhu way-markers and the sign for Ballyporeen, and after about 1 km turn left into the wood and cross the bridge to the car park.
