A free riverside park on the Mardyke, with formal gardens, a large fountain and Cork Public Museum at its heart — an easy 15-minute walk from the city centre.

Things to Do

Gardens, fountain and sculptures

Tree-lined avenues, brimming flower beds and a rose garden lead to the large central fountain, a favourite meeting point. Look out for sculptures around the park, including Seamus Murphy's statue of Michael Collins.

The Sky Garden

Diarmuid Gavin's Sky Garden won gold at the 2011 Chelsea Flower Show before being moved here; its sky-pod centrepiece now rests on the ground rather than hanging 30 metres up.

Cross the Shakey Bridge

The riverside path links to Daly's Bridge, a 1926 pedestrian suspension bridge nicknamed the Shakey Bridge because it sways gently as you cross to Sunday's Well Road. You can walk on along the Lee Fields from here.

Cork Public Museum

A converted 1845 Georgian house at the centre of the park holds Cork's civic silver and ceramics plus archaeological and medieval collections, with exhibitions rotating about three times a year. Admission is free.

Family play and wildlife

A playground with swings, slides and climbing frames keeps children busy, and the park's pond is a good spot for watching ducks and other waterfowl. The broad lawns are ideal for a picnic.

Hours: Open daily: 8.30am Mon-Fri and 10am Sat, Sun and bank holidays. Closing times vary by month: 5pm Jan, Feb, Nov, Dec; 6pm Mar and Oct; 8pm Apr and Sep; 9pm May and Aug; 10pm Jun and Jul.
Admission: Free - both the park and Cork Public Museum are free to enter.
Parking: On-street public parking outside the park; a parking disc is required Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, while Sunday parking is free. Spaces are limited, so walking or the bus is often easier.
Food: Tria Cafe, behind Cork Public Museum, serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and specialty coffee, open seven days in line with park hours (8.30am-4.30pm Nov-Apr, to 8pm May-Oct, Sundays from 9.30am). Cafes and bakeries are also a short walk away in the city.
