Self-Guided Tour of the Gaol Wings

Wander the corridors at your own pace with a guidebook included in admission (available in 12 languages). Peer into furnished cells with waxwork prisoners, hear the jingle of warders keys, and read real inmate stories — from Mary McDonnell (57 convictions) to conman James Burns. Upgrade to an audio guide for €2 (9 languages).

Daily Guided Tour

Join a 45-minute guided tour led by experienced storytellers (€2.50 extra). Runs at 2pm daily year-round, and every hour on the hour in July and August. Tours are in English only. Groups of 10 or more must pre-book.

Radio Museum Experience

Housed in the former Governors House, this museum showcases the restored 6CK Radio Broadcasting Studio that operated here from 1927 to the 1950s. See a nostalgic collection of early radio artefacts including pieces from the RTE Collection and learn about Marconi's Irish connections.

Kids Gaol Quiz

Children stay engaged with a fun quiz as they explore the Gaol. Complete it and claim a prize at the gift shop — a proven hit with families. Note that buggy access is limited as there is no lift to upper floors.

  • Hours: March to October: daily 10am to 5pm. November to February: daily 10am to 4pm. Closed 22 to 26 December.
  • Admission: Adult €12, Student/OAP €9.50, Child (3-17) €7.50, Family (2 adults + 2-4 children) €37. Under 3s free.
  • Parking: Free on-street parking right in front of the Gaol. Maximum stay 2 hours, no parking disc required. Coach parking available across the road.
  • Food: No cafe on site, but a coffee machine is available in the gift shop. Nearby options: Farol Tapas Bar around the corner, Natural Foods Bakery in Fitzgerald Park (10-min walk), plus the Kingsley Hotel and River Lee Hotel restaurants.
