About

A hidden riverside forest on the outskirts of Castlebridge, Edenvale Woods follows the gentle River Sow past a series of waterfalls, mossy mill ruins, and an old stone bridge — a short, enchanting walk that still feels like a local secret.

Things to Do

The Waterfall Walk

The star attraction: several waterfalls tumble along the River Sow, including two short falls side by side and one taller, particularly picturesque cascade. A metal platform and stairs at the far end let you climb alongside the tallest fall for a closer look.

Riverside Woodland Trail

A flat, 2.5 km out-and-back trail follows the River Sow through mature woodland. The path is buggy-friendly for most of the way and takes around 20–30 minutes at a relaxed pace. In spring, look for primroses and bluebells along the route.

19th-Century Mill Ruins & Stone Bridge

Near the end of the trail, the moss-covered ruins of a 19th-century mill stand beside a handsome stone bridge — both full of character and well worth the short detour. A water pumping station also sits on site.

Wildlife & Nature Watching

The woods are home to various birds and wildlife. Anglers can try for salmon on the River Sow (check Inland Fisheries Ireland regulations first). Spring brings primroses and bluebells; autumn colours transform the woodland.

Plan Your Visit

  • Food: No food or drink on site. Castlebridge village (~1 km away) has a coffee shop, supermarket, pub, and takeaways. Wexford town (7 km) has a full range of cafés and restaurants.
