A magnificent Georgian country house set in 160 hectares of Capability Brown-style parkland, where herds of deer roam free and 13 generations of St Leger history come alive on a guided tour.
Tours run on the hour from 10:00 (last tour at 16:00) and take about 30 minutes. Guides bring the St Leger family's 300-year story to life as you explore the refurbished ground-floor rooms. Look out for the impressive 17th-century Frans Snyders painting, Battle of the Birds.
Choose from colour-coded walking routes through the walled estate. The East Loop (2.3 km, ~40 min) is easy and great for wildlife spotting; the Perimeter Loop (5.1 km, ~1.5–2 hr) circles the full park. Combined, the trails cover about 10 km with only gentle climbs.
Set in the atmospheric 19th-century kitchen wing with its high ceiling and flagstone floor. Open 7 days a week, serving sandwiches, snacks and hot drinks. Sit by the stove indoors or in the courtyard on fine days. Closes at 17:00, last indoor orders 16:00.
Stroll through the 18th- and 19th-century gardens: the intricate Parterre Garden with box-hedging, the remains of the Pinery-Vinery where pineapples were once grown, the American Garden, and the walled garden with its 1907 glasshouse. The riverside Pleasure Grounds feature cascades, fish ponds and limestone bridges.
The estate is home to red deer, fallow deer, sika deer and a herd of rare-breed Kerry cattle. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, otters along the River Awbeg, and bats sheltering in tree boxes. The park's mix of deciduous woodland and open grassland makes it excellent for birdwatching too.
A well-equipped playground with a zip line makes this a great family day out. Located within the park, it's free to use. Note: the playground closes at 16:30.
