Ballinacourty Point Lighthouse (officially Ballynacourty) has guided shipping into Dungarvan Bay since 1858. It is a compact limestone tower on a low, rocky headland beside the Gold Coast golf links — admired from the outside, as the tower itself is closed to the public.
A 13 m tower of local limestone, designed by George Halpin and first lit on 1 July 1858, standing with its lighthouse keeper's house on low-lying ground. The tower is closed to the public, so it is viewed from outside.
There is no road to the tower: it is reached on foot via a long, narrow lane between the 6th and 7th holes of the golf course, or by picking your way along the rocky shore from the beach at Ballinacourty Point. The lighthouse sits on private property.
About a mile northwest, the village's 1832 limestone pier, boathouse, small beach and slipway make an easier, safer stop with wide views across the bay.
The headland looks best in low light, and visitors often plan around sunset for the light and atmosphere over Dungarvan Bay; coastal weather turns fast, so bring layers.
The adjacent championship parkland course dates to 1939 and now has 18 tree-lined holes with panoramic views of Dungarvan Bay and the Comeragh Mountains.
The Waterford Greenway is about 4 km away and Dungarvan Castle roughly 4.5 km, making the lighthouse an easy add-on to a wider Dungarvan day out.
