A 1785 Gothic-revival castle on a 1,500-acre Boyne Valley estate, still the Conyngham family home and the site of Ireland's most famous rock concerts. The castle and grounds are open by appointment only.
The castle is open by appointment only, but private guided tours run year-round: an hour through rooms reconstructed from 1785 by James Wyatt, James Gandon and Francis Johnston. €150 flat for up to six guests, then €12.50 each (max 25); pre-book one week ahead. Public tours open during Heritage Week.
Bubbly on arrival, tiered stands of savoury bites, scones and pastries, then a mini tour of the main floor. €65 per person on selected dates, some themed 'with a Traitorous Twist'; also bookable for private groups of 20 or more.
The on-site distillery visitor centre takes private and group bookings, ending with a guided tasting of Slane Irish Whiskey and the Extra Sherry Wood release. Over 18s only.
The estate has hosted U2, The Rolling Stones, Queen, David Bowie, REM and, most recently, Harry Styles in the riverside bowl below the castle. Fontaines D.C. play 26th and 27th June 2027.
Trails cross the parkland laid out by landscape architect Capability Brown, with sweeping views over the River Boyne just upstream of the Battle of the Boyne site.
In fine weather eat out under the castle facade, where the Silver Fox food truck serves hot drinks and fresh savoury and sweet treats. A marquee, heated stretch tent and covered porch operate between May and October.
The intimate whiskey and music room seats 30 amid four decades of concert memorabilia; the Gandon Room takes 60 and the Gothic Ballroom 100. All are private hire with bespoke menus.
