About

Ireland's only working pewter production site, handcrafting tankards, goblets and jewellery since 1974, with free workshop tours, a gift gallery and a well-loved café just off the N4 at Exit 14.

Things to Do

Free factory and gallery tour

Self-guided tours run Monday to Friday, 9.30am-4pm, subject to availability. You can watch the 30 local artisans cast, turn and hand-finish pewter in the workshop, then browse the gallery of finished pieces.

See the craft in action

Pewter-making was revived here by Paddy Collins in 1974 and is continued by his son Peter. The lead-free alloy is 95% tin, and pieces are individually cast, assembled and polished by hand.

The Pewter Café

A local favourite for breakfast, brunch and lunch: all-day breakfasts, homemade cakes, scones, soups, paninis, quiche, salads, and now hot options like curries and burgers. Afternoon tea is served, and there is outdoor dining in fine weather.

Home and Gift Gallery

The factory shop stocks the full Mullingar Pewter range plus Irish-made gifts and homewares, with free gift wrapping. Smaller pieces such as keyrings and baby shoes start at modest prices.

Royal Canal Greenway

The greenway passes close by — the café is a short walk from No. 7 The Downs Bridge — making this an easy stop for a stroll or cycle along the canal.
