A free roadside Wild Atlantic Way discovery point on the Ring of Kerry with sweeping views over Dingle Bay, the Dingle Peninsula and the long sands of Rossbeigh and Inch.
From the cliff-top layby on the N70 you look out over Dingle Bay and the Dingle Peninsula, with Rossbeigh and Inch strands below and the Iveragh mountains behind. The viewpoint sits at 67 m, so nothing blocks the sweep of sea and sand.
Mountain Stage is a stopping point on the Kerry Way long-distance walking trail. The easy 6 km section from Glenbeigh to the viewpoint takes about 2 hours with 150 m of climbing and stays on quiet back roads with views over the Glenbeigh Horseshoe peaks.
Turn away from the sea and you can trace the remains of the Great Southern and Western Railway's Killorglin-to-Valentia line, which opened in 1893 and closed in 1960. A halt called Mountain Stage stood here; Gleensk viaduct and several tunnels survive nearby, and there are plans to reopen the route as a cycling greenway.
Mountain Stage sits on the main Ring of Kerry loop about 8 km west of Glenbeigh, between Rossbeigh and Kells. Time it so tour buses (which run anti-clockwise) have passed, and you'll have the layby to yourself for photos.
