A family campsite of 45 secluded, serviced pitches inside Lough Key Forest & Activity Park — a five-minute walk from the lake, the Visitor Centre and Ireland's first tree canopy walk.
45 landscaped, secluded pitches each have electricity and water points, with two further tent-only areas in a woodland setting (note: no electric hook-up for tents). Family tent pitches are first come, first served and cannot be reserved.
This self-guided audio tour leads through 19th-century underground servant tunnels, up the five-storey Moylurg viewing tower and along the Tree Canopy Walk — a 300m timber-and-steel walkway 9m above the woodland floor, the first of its kind in Ireland.
A two-storey indoor challenge house of 47 quests with no instructions, solved only by teamwork and trial and error. Pre-booking is essential and last entry is two hours before closing.
Around 8km of completely traffic-free cycle trails make this a safe place to teach children to ride, while walking trails are graded from multi-access to strenuous. The Miners Way historical trail also passes through the park.
Beyond the campsite gates you'll find the Adventure Play Kingdom for younger children, Zipit Forest Adventures, Lough Key Boat Tours and P Mac kayak excursions on the lake.
Lough N' Loaded serves stone-baked pizza and coffee in the heart of the campsite in peak season, while the Lakeside Café in the Visitor Centre does toasties, pizza, soup and home baking, with a covered lakeside terrace.
The on-site games room has a pool table, air hockey, a television and arcade machines, and a vending machine sells confectionery, drinks and ice creams. Picnic tables are dotted around the campsite for guests' use.
