About

An 800-year-old Norman fortress turned Victorian country house, set in 50 acres of rolling parkland right in the heart of Kilkenny city — one of Ireland's most complete and accessible castle experiences.

Things to Do

Self-Guided Castle Tour

Explore lavishly furnished period rooms across four floors: the Chinese Withdrawing Room, State Dining Room, Tapestry Room, Library, Drawing Room, Victorian Nursery, and bedrooms decorated in 1830s splendour. The visit involves about 200 steps through narrow doorways — the ground floor is fully wheelchair accessible.

The Picture Gallery

The magnificent 19th-century Picture Gallery in the east wing was built to house the Butler family's fine collection of paintings. Its rich crimson walls and long vista make it the castle's most photographed room.
