About

Step inside a lifesize recreation of 15th-century Tralee and handle medieval artefacts at this compact museum in the heart of town. Two hands-on galleries bring Kerry's past vividly to life — and kids go free.

Things to Do

Medieval Experience

A walk-through, life-size diorama recreates the streets of Tralee as they were in 1450 AD — complete with the sights, sounds and (robust) smells of a bustling medieval community. See what people wore, what they ate, where they lived, and learn why the Fitzgeralds, Earls of Desmond, both founded and destroyed the town.

Medieval Experience

Archaeology Hall

Discover how archaeologists uncover the past — from spadework to lab analysis — alongside real medieval artefacts excavated from Tralee’s Dominican Priory. Stand-out finds include fragments of a knight’s tomb, evidence of a 500-year-old murder, and a medieval mason’s mark.

Dress Up & Get in the Stocks

Kids (and willing adults) can try on medieval costumes and pose in the replica stocks — one of the most popular family photo opportunities in the museum.

Bone Investigators

A hands-on activity for children in the Archaeology Hall: become an archaeologist for the day and dig up replica skeletons while learning how experts interpret human remains.
