About
Crag Cave is a fossil cave system over one million years old and, at almost 4 km, the longest cave in County Kerry. Discovered only in 1983 and lit atmospherically, it hides delicate calcite formations and chambers named after the places of Middle-earth.
Things to Do
The Crystal Gallery and The Cathedral
Look for the Crystal Gallery, filled with thousands of pure calcite straws, and the candlestick-shaped stalagmites rising into the domed ceiling of The Cathedral.
Middle-earth passages
Cave divers in the early 1980s named the chambers after Tolkien locations — Helms Deep, the Hall of Moria, the Forest of Fangorn and the Cirith Ungol passage — and their story is told on the tour.
Visitor Centre, Activity Centre and gift shop
Beyond the cave, the all-weather Visitor Centre holds an activity centre and gift shop; a Combined Cave & Play ticket (€15) adds the play area.
Eat on site
A restaurant serves visitors, and the whole Visitor Centre, Activity Centre, restaurant, toilets and gift shop are fully accessible.

- Hours: Open all year, 10am–6pm. April–November daily; January–March Friday to Sunday; December Thursday to Sunday; open daily during school holidays. Last cave entry 5:20pm.
- Admission: Adults €17, children (4+) €7, under 4s free
- Parking: On-site parking, including wheelchair-accessible spaces.
- Food: Restaurant on site in the Visitor Centre.
