Sea swimming in the main pool
The main pool is about 20m long with a gentle slope from shallow to deep. Entry is via metal swimming-pool-style ladders at both ends. The water is refreshed naturally by the tides of Blacksod Bay.

A free, 20m seawater tidal pool on the shores of Blacksod Bay — filled by the Atlantic at high tide, with a separate kiddie pool, boardwalk, and a wood-fired sauna right across the road.

Kids' splash pool
A separate, smaller shallow pool alongside the main one is perfect for toddlers and young children to paddle safely.
Sóna Sauna — hot-cold therapy
A mobile, wood-fired sauna parked right beside the pool. Heat up, then plunge into the Atlantic — a Nordic-style reset with Irish Atlantic soul. Book via Wunderbook or check their social media.
Seabiscuit coffee hut
Grab a hot chocolate, coffee, ice cream or snacks from the Seabiscuit cart next to the pool — the perfect warmer-upper after a bracing dip.
Boardwalk & coastal views
A renovated coastal boardwalk runs alongside the pool (refurbished 2017–2019). Great for a stroll with sweeping views across Blacksod Bay, especially at sunset.
Plan Your Visit
- Hours: Open 24 hours a day, all year round. Lifeguards on duty only during July and August (typically afternoons). Swimming and sea-safety lessons also run during these months — check local notices for pool closures during lessons.
- Admission: Free entry
- Parking: Free parking along Shore Road, reserved for pool users only. Alternatively, park in Belmullet town centre — the pool is about a 12-minute walk.
- Food: Seabiscuit coffee cart on-site (hot drinks, ice cream, treats). Sóna Sauna operates across the road. Belmullet town (12-min walk) has pubs, restaurants and cafés including Talbot Hotel, An Builin Blasta bakery, and McDonnells pub.
