A sheltered sandy cove on the Hook Peninsula — calm waters, golden sand, and a quiet slice of history where the Normans first landed in 1170.
The cove's shape and low cliffs keep the water unusually calm, making it one of the safest-feeling swim spots on the peninsula. There are no lifeguards, so only enter if you're a confident swimmer. The beach partly submerges at high tide — check a tide table and aim for low water.
Soft golden sand stretches roughly 300 metres, backed by grassy cliffs. Stroll the waterline for views across Bannow Bay, the Keeragh Islands, and on clear days the Sugarloaf Mountains. The northern end is best for swimming, with fewer rocks.
A short path from the southern end of the beach leads up to the 19th-century Martello Tower, built during the Napoleonic Wars. It's a private residence so you can't go inside, but walking around the exterior offers great photos, especially at sunrise or sunset.
The Irish Experience runs guided mini-tours (1.5 hours) and rentals directly from the beach. The calm, shallow water makes this a forgiving place for beginners. Paddleboards are also available.
A wood-fired sauna perched on the clifftop with sea views to the Keeragh Islands. Open seasonally: Friday evenings 5–9pm, Saturdays and Sundays 9am–4pm. Garden yoga runs Fridays at 7pm (€10, BYO mat). A €20 yoga/sauna combo is available.
Baginbun is a key stop on the Norman Way trail, marking where the ships La Bague and La Bonne landed in 1170. From here you can drive the Hook Peninsula to Hook Lighthouse (20 min), Tintern Abbey (20 min), or Dollar Bay Beach (12 min).
