About

A 2km Wild Atlantic Way surf beach of golden sand and dunes below the Sligo-Leitrim Mountains, bookended by the natural arches and blowholes of the Fairy Bridges. One of Ireland's top surf breaks — but dangerous for swimming.

Things to Do

Surfing and surf lessons

Tullan is Bundoran's flagship break, with a left-hand wedge at the southern end and sand-bottom A-frames along the strand. Murf's Surf School operates from a trailer in the car park: lessons from €40, board and wetsuit rental €15/hour, €25/2 hours, €30/day. Bundoran Surf Co also runs lessons nearby, all year round.

Fairy Bridges

Just south of the beach, natural arches in the cliff hide blowholes that, on the right tide, blow seawater skywards — a spectacle that has drawn visitors since the 1700s. Accessible from Tullan Strand Road or along the coast from the beach.

Walk the strand

The beach runs 2km from the north end of Bundoran to the Erne Estuary at Ballyshannon, backed by dunes. On a clear day, look across Donegal Bay for the Sliabh Liag sea cliffs, over 80km away.

The Wishing Chair

A naturally formed stone chair beside the Fairy Bridges. Sit slowly, take in the view, tap the chair twice and make a wish — keep it secret for it to come true.

Rougey Walk to Bundoran

A moderate circular cliff-top walk links the beach to Bundoran's promenade and main street, passing the golf course with the Atlantic below; the Fairy Bridges and Wishing Chair are signed off this route.

Beach day and picnics

Picnic benches sit around the car park, dogs are welcome, and the wide sand offers space to spread out. Note the strong rip currents: this beach is not safe for swimming.
