A family-run Donegal Tweed visitor centre on Ardara's Main Street, where master weavers still work handlooms and guests step inside a replica 19th-century weaver's cottage.
Master weavers and their apprentices still make handwoven tweed on looms that have been used for centuries, working in the same Mart building where local tweed was once inspected and sold. Traditional handweaving demonstrations run daily.
Added in 2017, this scaled replica of founder Dennis Mulhern's childhood home has a thatched roof and a loom house at the side, showing how a rural weaving family lived and worked. Guides are on hand to answer questions.
A short film with local archival footage traces the Donegal tweed story from fleece to fashion, rounding off the visit with the history of the craft in Ardara.
Staff and master weavers are on the floor, so you can talk to the people who design, weave and tailor the cloth before you buy. The Mulherns are fifth-generation handweavers.
The centre doubles as a retail store selling the family's own Triona tweed coats, jackets and capes in 100% Irish lambswool, plus other Irish brands and jewellery.
