The National 1798 Rebellion Centre brings Ireland's 1798 uprising to life through hands-on, multi-sensory exhibits, a dramatic Battle of Vinegar Hill re-enactment room, and guided weekend tours — all in Enniscorthy, a 15-minute walk from the railway station.
A self-guided walk through the story of the 1798 Rebellion, with audio-visual presentations, touchable objects and hands-on displays. Most visitors spend 30-60 minutes; parental discretion is advised for under-12s as the content depicts war.
A multi-sensory room recreated to feel like a real battle, with loud noises and flashing lights. Staff are happy to make the experience calmer for visitors with sensory sensitivities — just let them know.
Weekend guided tours run at 1:30pm and 3:00pm and take about 45 minutes. Groups of 10 or more can pre-book a tour at a time of their choosing; the café can arrange set menus for groups of 10-30.
The on-site café serves local, seasonal, homemade food — breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday, sweet treats and brunch at the weekend — supplied by Wexford producers.
Carry on the story at the battlefield of Vinegar Hill, with free parking, walking paths and a ruined windmill at the summit, and at Enniscorthy Castle with 800 years of history. Guided tours of both can be arranged through the centre.
