A Blue Flag lake beach on the southern shore of Lough Rea, The Long Point is where Loughrea swims, picnics and watches birds — clear water, a sandy shore and lifeguards in summer, two kilometres from town.
Things to Do
Picnic and barbecue by the water
Picnic tables and seating sit above the shore, and the enhancement plan adds more picnic and barbecue areas. Bring your own food and settle in for the afternoon.
Walk the lakeside loop
Upgraded walkways and a looped sensory walk thread through the site, giving open views across Lough Rea and its wooded islands.
Kayak and paddleboard
The piers and former slipway are used by kayakers and paddleboarders, with ramps, steps and ladders being improved for water users.
Fish and birdwatch
The lake is fished for trout, perch and pike, and it is of international importance for waterfowl. Its islands are believed to be ancient crannogs.
Explore Loughrea and Corry's Field
On the northern shore, a promenade through Corry's Field near the Fair Green crosses wetlands and wildflower meadow with good birdwatching vantage points.

- Hours: Open daily, roughly 8am–10pm.
- Admission: Free — no tickets required for this public Blue Flag bathing area.
- Parking: Free car park, paid car park and free street parking; the approved upgrade will deliver three car parks with 155 spaces combined off Lake Road.
- Food: No permanent café on site — bring a picnic; picnic tables and barbecue areas are provided, and a small retail/food outlet is planned as part of the approved upgrade. Loughrea town, about 2 km away, has cafés and pubs.
