About

A sprawling 23-hectare riverside park seamlessly connected to Mallow Castle's historic grounds — together forming an 84-acre green corridor along the River Blackwater, home to a rare herd of white fallow deer.

Things to Do

Riverside Walk & Wildlife

Follow the paved trail along the River Blackwater for sweeping views of the water and woodland. Spot herons, ducks, swans, and the park's famous white fallow deer grazing near the tree line — a leucistic herd descended from two bucks gifted by Queen Elizabeth I in the 16th century.

Riverside Walk & Wildlife

Mallow Castle Grounds

The park flows directly into the castle estate, where you can explore the ruins of a 16th-century fortified house (external viewing only), stroll the restored walled garden, and cross the new pedestrian bridge. The grounds are free to enter and rich with centuries of history.

Castle Playground & Dragon Chair

A modern, safety-certified play area beside the castle ruins features climbing frames, slides, and a whimsical dragon-shaped chair that's become a popular photo spot for families.

Walking, Jogging & Cycling

Over 5 km of flat, well-surfaced pathways connect the town park, castle grounds, and lower park — all wheelchair and pushchair friendly. The 3.5 km Sli na Sláinte loop starts here, and the park connects to the longer Blackwater Way for extended hikes.

River Blackwater Angling

The Blackwater is famed for trout and salmon. Five new angling stands are planned along the riverbank, and day or weekly fishing permits can be purchased locally at The Bridge Bar or Country Lifestyle & Pet Store in town.

Picnic by the Ponds

Scattered benches and sheltered seating areas around the park's water ponds offer quiet spots to enjoy a packed lunch. Bring supplies from the town centre — Mallow's Friday Farmers' Market (9am–1pm at St James Church) is ideal for fresh provisions.
