A short climb through woodland to one of Dublin's finest lookouts, where Dublin Bay, the Wicklow Mountains and — on a clear day — the Welsh coast unfold below. Killiney Hill is part of a free public park above Dalkey, with two odd monuments on its summit.
Things to Do
Walk the short loop
From the main car park, follow the path to the stone steps on the left and climb through the trees to the summit of Dalkey Hill — about 700m and 30 minutes, with hidden Wicklow viewpoints off to your right.
Walk the long loop over Dalkey Hill
Starting from the main car park or the tea rooms, this 2.5km loop takes roughly 50 minutes and can be walked either direction; clockwise brings you towards the Wicklow views.
Find the Obelisk and the pyramid
Two monuments stand on the hill: the Obelisk, also known as the Witch's Hat, and a small step pyramid — both good photo stops.
Look down into Dalkey Quarry
The old quarry gives the appearance of a dramatic cliff face on one side of the hill and is a popular rock-climbing spot.
Picnic with the kids
There are benches around the hill and a grassy summit space ideal for summer picnics; the free car park and easy wooded paths suit families.
Coffee at the tea rooms
Killiney Hill Tea Rooms serves freshly ground coffee, pastries and sandwiches on the hill, with outdoor seating where dogs are welcome.
Combine it with the coast
After the hill, drop down to the Vico Baths swimming spot, Killiney Beach, or the pubs and cafés of Dalkey village.

- Hours: Open access — no fixed opening or closing times.
- Admission: Free — this is a public park with open access.
- Parking: Free main car park at the main entrance via Burton Road (Scalpwilliam/Mount Mapas); it gets busy at weekends. Extra parking at the tea rooms is very limited.
- Food: Killiney Hill Tea Rooms on the hill (9am–5pm daily, free parking, dogs welcome outdoors); hot drinks and snacks also available, and Dalkey village has plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby.
