The working stud farm has bred champions for over a century, covering 520 mares a season and producing 300-plus foals each spring. See the resident stallions and retired greats such as Sizing John, Hurricane Fly and Beef or Salmon relaxing at grass.
An immersive attraction tracing the life of an Irish thoroughbred: train your horse, pick racing colours, work the commentary box, then ride your own big race. It is included in admission but capacity is limited, so pre-book a time slot.
Laid out between 1906 and 1910 by Japanese master horticulturist Tassa Eida, these are renowned as the finest of their kind in Europe. Ponds, stepping stones, a tea house and winding paths symbolise the 'Life of Man'.
Designed in 1999 by Martin Hallinan, this wilder companion garden honours Ireland's monastic landscape with woodland, wetland, waterfalls, lakes and fissured limestone cells.
A guided tour of the stud is included free with admission and runs several times daily, with times varying by season. Allow two to three hours in total to add the self-guided gardens.
Over 20 fairies guard a woodland trail past the paddocks, with a bug hotel along the way. There is also a playground with swings, slides and climbing frames, plus picnic facilities.
The on-site restaurant serves brunch until 11.45am and lunch dishes like fish and chips and Korean chicken burger, alongside homemade breads, scones and cakes. A Pavilion cafe trades through the summer months.
