A shorefront playground on the edge of Lough Swilly, split into two age zones and recently upgraded with inclusive, sensory play equipment in memory of a local man.
The park is split into two fenced areas, one for children up to 6 and one for ages 6 to 12, so toddlers and older kids each get equipment scaled to them. Swings, slides, ropes, climbing frames and an obstacle course are all on soft safety flooring.
Benches and picnic spots sit right on the shore of Lough Swilly, looking out over the water and the surrounding hills. It is the obvious spot to settle down while the children play.
A local 'Fun For All' campaign raised over €38,000 in memory of Gareth Friel to extend the park with an ability swing, a bird's nest swing, two accessible picnic benches, a corner seat and twelve more sensory pieces, alongside PECS and LAMH communication boards.
The playground marks the beginning of the Buncrana Heritage Trail, which leads into the town's history and on to the ruins of old Buncrana Castle and the O'Doherty's Keep site.
The 5 km tarmacked coastal path starts near the hotel 300 m away and runs past Buncrana shorefront, Ned's Point Fort, Fr Hegarty's Rock and on to Porthaw and Stragill beaches, pushchair and wheelchair friendly the whole way.
Beyond the playground itself the site has a zip line, a tennis court and a football pitch, giving older children something to do beyond the climbing frames.
A flower bed garden and a bronze statue paying tribute to Buncrana-born politician Tip O'Neill stand within the park, which sits a short walk from the lighthouse and leisure centre.
