A Wild Atlantic Way discovery point at the foot of Mount Brandon, where a free car park opens straight onto a cliff-top lookout over Brandon Bay, the Maharees and Tralee Bay — and autumn gales deliver rare seabirds.
A short, level path runs from the free car park to an observation deck above the headland. Because the car park sits right beside the viewing deck, it suits visitors who can't manage a long walk, with sweeping views along Brandon Bay, the Maharees, the Slieve Mish mountains and across Tralee Bay to north Kerry.
North-west autumn gales push Great, Arctic, Pomarine and Long-tailed skuas past the head, along with Cory's and Sooty shearwaters, Grey phalaropes, Sabine's gulls and the occasional Red-eyed vireo. Whales and dolphins are sometimes spotted from the cliffs too.
A 12 km, 3–4 hour moderate loop around a dramatic U-shaped coastal inlet, popular with birdwatchers for its choughs. The cliffs are dangerous: wire fencing marks ground prone to subsidence, dogs are banned even on leads, and you must not descend into the creek.
The most scenic ascent of Mount Brandon (952 m) starts from the Faha car park near Cloghane: 8.5 km, roughly 4 hours, moderate to strenuous, past the Paternoster lakes. From the summit you can descend via Sás Creek to Brandon Point if you have left a second car.
Sandy beaches around Brandon Point and Kilcummin Strand are generally flat and reachable by car. Nearby Brandon and Cloghane are Gaeltacht villages with pubs and a café, linked by the scenic coastal road on the Wild Atlantic Way.
