About

Ireland's largest mountain bike trail network — 98km of purpose-built singletrack weaving through the Ballyhoura hills with panoramic views over Limerick and Cork.

Things to Do

Greenwood Blue Loop (7km)

The entry-level loop and the perfect introduction to Ballyhoura. Fast and flowing with some tight, technical sections. Takes 30–90 minutes with 100m of climbing. Waymarked with a blue circle.

Mountrussell Blue Loop (17km)

A more demanding blue route that builds on Greenwood, adding rockier, narrower and steeper terrain. Includes trails like Dessert, Easy Peeler, DLR and All Aboard. Allow 1–2 hours.

Garrane Red Loop (35km)

A challenging red route with long, fast singletrack descents and demanding climbs. Features Super D, Cliff Hanger, Forest Gump and Pump & Grind. Takes 1.5–3 hours. Not for novices.

Castlepook Red Route (51km)

The ultimate Ballyhoura challenge — the longest, most demanding loop reaching the southern fringes of the forest. Includes Streamhill, Switchbacker, Superman and River Run. Allow 3–5 hours.

Black Grade Trails (15km)

Five severe, expert-only trails — Scott's Pine, Car Door, Toto, Sledge and Hammer — located close to the trailhead. Steep, narrow, with drop-offs. For highly experienced riders only.
