About

Ireland's first floating boardwalk stretches 600 metres across the surface of Acres Lake, forming the centrepiece of the Shannon Blueway. It's a gentle, scenic walk on water linking Drumshanbo to the canal network, with views of surrounding Leitrim hills.

Things to Do

Walk the floating boardwalk

The 600-metre floating boardwalk is Ireland's first, running directly across the surface of Acres Lake. The wide timber path rises and falls gently with the water and connects to a canal-side walking trail, making for an easy, flat loop suitable for all fitness levels.

Explore the Shannon Blueway

The boardwalk is part of the larger Shannon Blueway, a network of water and land trails. You can continue beyond the boardwalk along the canal towpath, or hire a kayak or canoe to explore Acres Lake and the Shannon–Erne waterway from the water.

Cycle the canal trail

The surfaced towpath alongside the canal is popular with cyclists. Bring your own bike or hire locally to cover more ground along the Blueway's trail network.

Spot wildlife on the lake

Acres Lake and its reed-fringed shores attract water birds and wildlife. Bring binoculars for a chance to see swans, herons, and ducks among the lily pads.
