A free, award-winning and unusually inclusive playground and park on the Sligo Road overlooking the River Moy, an easy walk from Ballina town centre.
The main draw: a huge double slide, swings, bucket and toddler swings, monkey bars, roundabout, zip line, seesaws, climbing structure, wooden beam and a maze, all built mostly from sustainable wood and bark mulch. Equipment has been upgraded for children of all ages and abilities.
Two tennis courts, basketball courts, table tennis tables, a cycle lane and an all-weather football pitch sit alongside the playground, so older kids and adults have plenty to do too.
Adjoining Tom Ruane Park is the new Ballina Sensory Park, a calm, inclusive space designed with accessibility and sensory experiences in mind for children of all abilities. Phase 1 opened in summer 2026.
The park overlooks the River Moy and has a large green area with picnic benches dotted around, good for duck-spotting and a packed lunch. It is within easy walking distance of Ballina town.
A new solar-powered BoxUp locker unit lends sports and leisure equipment for free via a smartphone app, run by Mayo Sports Partnership and Mayo County Council.
