A magnificent Palladian mansion set on 200 acres of parkland in the Wicklow countryside, Russborough combines a world-class art collection, a beech-hedge maze, woodland trails, and a superb café — all just 30 minutes from Dublin.
The one-hour guided tour takes you through opulent rooms filled with fine art, antique furniture, and ornate plasterwork. Guides bring the house alive with stories of the three families who lived here since the 1740s — the Leesons (Earls of Milltown), the Beits, and the many art thefts the house famously survived. Tours run on the hour.
Planted in the 1980s by Sir Alfred Beit, this beech-hedge maze has about 2km of winding paths. Reach the centre and you'll find a statue of the Greek goddess Fame atop a column — the same figure that inspired the Russborough logo. Fun for all ages.
Located in the basement, this immersive exhibition uses film, sound, and high-resolution photography to tell the story of Sir Alfred and Lady Clementine Beit — their passion for art, music, travel, and philanthropy. A fascinating complement to the house tour, included with your house ticket.
Two main marked trails: the Lake Walk (2km) with views over Blessington Lake and the Wicklow Mountains, and the Woodland Walk (2.5km) through the rhododendron garden and birch woods. A longer Loop Walk combines both and passes the old Ice House and Lime Kiln. A Tree Trail highlights ancient oaks and beeches.
Meet eagles, owls, and falcons up close at the on-site National Bird of Prey Centre. Daily flying demonstrations are both educational and thrilling, and you may even get to hold an owl at the end. Operates independently — check their website for times and separate admission.
Designed for young children, the Magical Trail leads from hidden fairy doors to Lady's Island, with illustrated wildlife signs and quiz questions along the way. There is also a large outdoor playground near the maze — perfect for burning off energy.
Restored by volunteer gardeners, the Walled Garden is a tranquil spot with flowers, fruit trees, and seasonal planting. Opening hours are limited — typically Wed & Sat 10:30am–3pm, Tue & Thu 11am–4pm, and Sun 2pm–5pm — so check before visiting.
