Roundstone Music & Crafts is the working studio and shop of Malachy Kearns — "Malachy Bodhrán" — who has hand-built goatskin bodhráns here for over 50 years, including every drum used in Riverdance.
Things to Do
Meet the master bodhrán maker
Malachy Kearns works at his craft in the old Franciscan monastery craft centre on Monastery Road and greets visitors personally, often with a short tune on one of his drums. His bodhráns are handmade from treated goatskin stretched on beech or birch rims.
See and hear how a bodhrán is made
Malachy explains the craft, its history and the traditional goatskin process in the workshop. Daily talks are given to groups, but these must be pre-booked.
Order a personalised family-crest drum
Celtic designs are hand painted by Anne Kearns, and bespoke commissions such as family crests or wedding gifts can be ordered directly.
Stop for tea and a chat
Visitors regularly mention sitting down with Malachy over a cup of tea and home baking while browsing the souvenirs.
