A ruined O'Dowd stronghold on a rocky ledge beside Easkey pier, on the Wild Atlantic Way. Only the tower stands, but a hidden spiral stair still climbs to the Sailor's Bed for sweeping coastal views.
Inside the modern south-wall entrance, a hidden spiral stair behind a low archway on the right climbs to the top of the 63 ft (19 m) tower, known as the Sailor's Bed. Uneven steps, low lintels and unguarded drops mean it is a real climb: no railings, at your own risk, and not for those uneasy with heights.
The surviving walls date to the late 16th or early 17th century, a two-phase bawn bristling with gun-loops and round corner turrets. The main entrance is a pointed-arch gateway in the north wall; later farmyard walls inside show the castle's later life as a working farmyard.
Below the castle, the cobbled shoreline and tidal pools at the mouth of the Easkey River are a popular spot for fossil-hunting and watching the Atlantic swell. Easkey is one of Europe's best-known surfing waves, and surfers share the bay with the ruin.
Roslee is stop 10 on the local LEAP Easkey Heritage Trail, whose sign by the pier gives the castle's story. From the top of the tower the view reaches from Aughris Head across Sligo Bay to the mountains of north Mayo.
