Home of Ireland's long-running steam threshing festival, this volunteer-run site in north Meath pairs a museum of vintage farm machinery with an 800-metre riverside parkland walk.
On the 2nd Sunday of August (9 Aug 2026) the grounds fill with vintage steam and stationary engines, horse-drawn ploughing and binders, live threshing and flailing, a historic road-making re-enactment, chainsaw carving and an international farrier competition. Music, a dog show, the Queen of Steam contest and craft stalls run all day; gates open 9am-7pm.
This volunteer-led museum holds the collection built up since the festival began in the 1970s: vintage steam threshing machinery, artefacts and rural memorabilia. It is open year-round by appointment (phone 046 9244810) and on Threshing Day, with a lift to the upper floor and light refreshments.
An 800-metre illuminated walkway loops the park along the Borora River, past a duck pond, insect hotels, a small oak plantation, a replica hedge school and a child-friendly fairy fort, with exercise machines and picnic tables out in spring and summer.
Campers, caravans and tents can stay on the festival site for 20 euro per night (max 4 nights). Every person still needs a festival ticket, payable at gate 2 if not bought online.
Open green space for play, seasonal craft and food fairs, car boot sales, Easter egg hunts and treasure hunts keep younger visitors busy, and the site hosts events through the year including a Christmas craft fair and Santa experience.
