A free, flat, nine-acre lakeside park on the south edge of Claremorris, built by volunteers on land gifted by the Mahon family. One easy loop walk circles the man-made Clare Lake past ducks, swans, fishing jetties and a children's playground.
The main attraction is a flat, easy loop of roughly 1.3 km on gravel paths around Clare Lake, with benches, two bridges and a band stand along the way. Allow 30-45 minutes; the path is wheelchair- and buggy-friendly. The loop starts and finishes at the park entrance.
Ducks, swans and geese live on the lake year-round, and a display panel lists 35 bird species recorded in the park. Woodland residents include foxes, hares, hedgehogs and bats, and two ancient crannógs lie in and beside the water.
Six jetties and floating fishing stands give fenced, wheelchair-accessible access for casual coarse angling; the lake holds pike, perch, trout and eel. Fishing bye-laws apply, and gear disinfection points were installed to protect the water.
A modern playground sits beside the entrance gate, and the 'Land of the Giants' loop is dotted with oversized sculptures and miniature houses that children love.
Every Saturday at 9:30am a free, volunteer-run 5k parkrun starts about 500m inside the park: an anti-clockwise lap of the lake, then a loop through the woods. Course is entirely on gravel and wheelchair-friendly.
