A family-run, three-acre themed garden near Enniskeane where a hobbit house, fairy trail, exotic birds and a dozen interlocking garden styles hide around every corner.
A Tolkien-inspired hobbit house built into the birch mound, with a round door, a cheerful fireplace, and a tiny hobbit bedroom in an underground tunnel. West Cork with Kids calls it Ireland's only hobbit house; a sleeping-hobbit figure adds to the fun.
Reach the fairy woods through a pergola walk and hunt for dozens of fairy houses (plus a couple of trolls), the Fairy Fort in a birch mound, and a bug house. A favourite with younger visitors.
Eleven garden styles flow into each other: a sunken white garden, Italianate canal, Japanese, Chinese, Mediterranean and tropical gardens, a bog garden and wisteria walk, a birch mound ringed by wildflower meadow, and a walled kitchen garden. Look for the koi ponds and wishing well.
Finish with tea, coffee and biscuits in the clean, self-service tea room, or picnic on the large circular lawn. The gardens are also available for wedding photos.
The aviary holds budgies, parakeets, finches, ducks and chickens, and the friendly pygmy goats come to say hello. Scattered statues of dinosaurs, monkeys and tigers keep children scanning the borders.
